Prevention of accidents in facilities for the treatment and storage of selected agricultural products

Petr Travanicek et al.

Summary: Process safety in the storage and processing of agricultural products is crucial for reducing risks to human health and property, as well as ensuring national food safety. However, the agricultural industry has received relatively less attention in terms of safety engineering compared to other sectors. This paper aims to research past accidents in agricultural processing and storage facilities, providing professionals and operators with a comprehensive source of information to prevent similar accidents. The analysis of a representative database reveals that fires are the most common accidents, with material handling facilities being the most frequent location. Organizational factors are identified as the most common causes of accidents. Measures to prevent recurrence of similar accidents are also discussed.
