Metabolomic Signatures Associated With Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Outcomes

Hongyang Pi et al.

Summary: In this study, metabolic profiling was used to identify the association between plasma metabolomic profiles and right ventricular dilation, mortality, and measures of disease severity in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The polyamine, histidine, and sphingomyelin metabolic pathways were found to be associated with RV dilation, mortality, and disease severity.

Histamine receptors in heart failure

Scott P. Levick

Summary: Histamine, a biogenic amine, exerts its effects on cardiac physiology through four G-protein-coupled receptors. In heart failure, the actions of histamine receptors are complex, with histamine 1 receptor having detrimental effects in coronary vasculature, and histamine 2 receptor mediating adverse effects on cardiac remodeling. The protective role of histamine 3 receptor and the role of histamine 4 receptor in heart failure are areas that require further research. Targeting histamine receptors as a therapeutic approach for heart failure is an important area of investigation.

Histamine H2 Receptor Antagonists and Heart Failure Risk in Postmenopausal Women: The Women's Health Initiative

Sophia R. Larson et al.

Summary: The study found that there was no association between H2RA use and incident HF among postmenopausal women in the large-scale WHI study. Further studies are needed to explore potential factors that may modify the relationship between H2RA exposure and HF risk.
