Fear of fatness and desire for thinness as distinct experiences: A qualitative exploration

Rachel F. Rodgers et al.

Summary: This study explored the subjective experiences of fear of fatness and drive for thinness in young women with body image concerns. The findings suggest that while there are similarities between the experiences, there are also clear differences, with fear of fatness being more associated with fear-based avoidance patterns and drive for thinness being more associated with approach-based reward models.

#Bopo: Enhancing body image through body positive social media-evidence to date and research directions

Rachel F. Rodgers et al.

Summary: Body positive content aims to disrupt the monopoly of idealized appearance-focused media, encourage individuals to adopt a positive stance towards their bodies, and reject harmful appearance ideals. Research suggests that body positive social media content has the potential to benefit body image by reducing state appearance comparison. However, efforts to identify individual-level moderators and the focus on comparative effects with idealized social media content and young women have limitations. Further research is needed to bridge the gaps and understand which types of body positive social media content can be most effective in preventing and reducing body image concerns.

Implicit and explicit motivational responses to high- and low-calorie food in women with disordered eating

Sarah E. Racine et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between eating disorders and motivational responses, finding that binge eating may be associated with increased reward reactivity while restrictive eating may be linked to decreased reward reactivity or increased threat. The research also indicates that eating pathology group did not predict motivational reactions to food, and rating low-calorie foods lower on craving was associated with endorsement of restrictive eating.
