Summary: This study aimed to determine the impact of low-cost interventions on reducing violent events in two tertiary-care emergency departments in Pakistan. The results showed that by improving prevention and de-escalation skills of healthcare workers and implementing client educational interventions, the incidence of violent events can be significantly reduced.

Workplace violence toward emergency medicine physicians in the hospitals of Taif city, Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectional survey

Summary: Workplace violence against physicians in tertiary hospitals in Taif City, Saudi Arabia is uncommon. This study found that the majority of physicians experienced verbal violence within the hospital premises, while a smaller percentage experienced physical violence. Only 44.8% of the respondents reported the incidents. The most common instigators were patients, their relatives, external colleagues, and staff members. Younger physicians with less experience in emergency medicine were the most susceptible to both verbal and physical violence.

Consequences of Exposure to Violence, Aggression, and Sexual Harassment in Private Security Work: A Mediation Model

Summary: This study examines the negative consequences of exposure to violence and aggression in the private security sector. It presents an integrated model that explains the indirect relationship between turnover intention and experiences of violence through worries about violence and psychosomatic complaints. The findings suggest that worries about violence play a central role in the transmission process from exposure to harmful behaviors at work to negative outcomes.

Prevalence and determinants of violence against health care in the metropolitan city of Peshawar: a cross sectional study

Summary: Violence against healthcare personnel in Peshawar, Pakistan is prevalent, with verbal violence being the most common form. The study found that working in public healthcare facilities and having more co-workers significantly increased the risk of violence, while being a paramedic reduced the risk compared to physicians. Managing violence against healthcare personnel in the emergency settings of Pakistan: a mixed methods study

Violence against Healthcare Workers during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Review of Incidents from a Lower-Middle-Income Country

Summary: Healthcare workers worldwide have faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, including shortages of protective equipment and increased violence towards them. In Pakistan, as well as globally, the main instigating factors for violence against HCWs include mistrust in healthcare workers, hospital policies, and the death of patients. To prevent future incidents, it is essential for institutions, policymakers, media organizations, and law enforcement agencies to collaborate on public awareness campaigns to combat misconceptions and promote responsible journalism. Additionally, hospitals should implement measures such as de-escalation training and increased security, while law enforcement agencies should be trained in non-violent crowd management to handle peaceful protests by HCWs.
