Allelopathy effects of invasive alien Ageratina adenophora on native shrub species of chir pine forest in the central Himalaya, India

Summary: The study found that extracts and residues of Ageratina adenophora have significant inhibitory effects on the growth of the native shrubs Berberis asiatica and Rubus ellipticus, especially at higher concentrations. Additionally, the amendments of A. adenophora residues in natural soil also showed significant inhibition on the growth and biomass of the test species. The results suggest that allelopathy plays an important role in the successful establishment and rapid spread of A. adenophora in chir pine forests.
