Benchmarking electrodes modified with bi-doped polypyrrole for sensing applications

E. Gutiirrez Pineda et al.

Summary: Polypyrrole-modified electrodes bi-doped with salicylate and perchlorate anions were synthesized and characterized. The performance of these electrodes was evaluated and compared to find the best candidate for electrochemical sensors. Morphological and spectroscopic characteristics of the films were determined, and their electrochemical response and electrocatalytic activity were measured. The presence of salicylate ions favored the formation of a three-dimensional tubular structure, while perchlorate ions contributed to increased conductivity and electrocatalytic activity. The electrodes modified with these films were successfully used for hydrazine determination.

Histamine and Tyramine in Chihuahua Cheeses during Shelf Life: Association with the Presence of tdc and hdc Genes

Eduardo Campos-Gongora et al.

Summary: Cheese is a popular dairy food in Mexico with high nutritional value. In the production of Chihuahua cheese, maturation is carried out using lactose microorganisms, which can result in the formation of biogenic amines. Histamine and tyramine are the main amines formed in cheeses, and their consumption poses a health risk. This study determined the levels of histamine and tyramine in Chihuahua cheeses at different times of shelf life using HPLC, and also identified the presence of genes responsible for their synthesis using molecular techniques.

Junchong Liu et al.

Summary: The rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 has led to catastrophic public healthcare issues and economic crises worldwide. A phage expression of WNLDLSQWLPPM peptide specific to SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (SP) was screened and a peptide-antigen-antibody ELISA (p-ELISA) with tyramine signal amplification (TSA) was developed, which showed an ultrasensitive detection limit of 14 fM and 2.8 fM for first TSA and secondary TSA, respectively. The proposed p-ELISA method with TSA could detect SARS-CoV-2 pseudoviruses down to 10 and 3 TCID50/mL in healthy nasal swab samples. This method is expected to be a promising tool for rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigen and control of the infectious disease.

Summary: Shear connectors are commonly used in bridge and steel engineering, but corrosion is inevitable as they are exposed to moist air. This study conducted experimental investigations to study the effects of corrosion and strain rate on the shear capacity of corroded stud connectors. The results showed that stud connectors with higher corrosion rates are more sensitive to dynamic load, but corrosion cannot decrease the ultimate shear stress.

Polypyrrole-coated carbon fibre electrodes for paracetamol and clozapine drug sensing

Sutthima Sriprasertsuk et al.

Summary: PPy.SDS-coated carbon fiber electrodes demonstrated enhanced drug sensing capabilities compared to bare carbon fibers, with a 14-fold increase in electrochemical surface area. The use of a large counter anion as dopant, such as dodecyl sulfate, resulted in a greater drug sensing response. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) with PPy.SDS fiber electrodes was able to detect paracetamol with a detection limit of 34 μM and a linear response range of 50-500 μM, even in the presence of interferents like dopamine and ascorbic acid at 100 μM concentrations. This indicates the potential for real-world applications of PPy.SDS electrodes in drug sensing, with the ability to detect anti-psychotic medication like clozapine at low concentrations.
