Effect of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) on the development of fetal growth restriction in pregnancies with impaired uteroplacental perfusion at midgestation-a randomized trial

Tanja Groten et al.

Summary: This study aimed to test the hypothesis that the nitric oxide donor pentaerythritol tetranitrate reduces fetal growth restriction and perinatal death in pregnant women with impaired placental perfusion. However, the study results showed that pentaerythritol tetranitrate did not have an impact on the development of fetal growth restriction and perinatal death in these women. However, it significantly reduced secondary outcomes such as the incidence of preterm birth and pregnancy-induced hypertension.

Longitudinal maternal cardiac function in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy

Hua Zen Ling et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the maternal cardiac adaptation in normotensive and hypertensive pregnancies and control for important maternal characteristics. The results showed that women with preeclampsia and gestational hypertension had abnormal cardiac adaptation compared to normotensive women. This abnormality was evident after 20 weeks of gestation and at least 10 weeks before the clinical manifestation of the disease.

Hemodynamic maladaptation and left ventricular dysfunction in chronic hypertensive patients at the beginning of gestation and pregnancy complications: a case control study

Herbert Valensise et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the relationship between cardiovascular health and cardiac function during early pregnancy and the development of complications in chronic hypertensive patients. The results showed that patients with complications had abnormal cardiac indices in early pregnancy, including heart rate, cardiac output, vascular resistance, and left ventricular morphology. In addition, diastolic and systolic function were also affected. These findings suggest that early assessment of cardiovascular parameters during early pregnancy can help predict the development of complications in hypertensive patients.

Distinction between SGA and FGR by means of fetal umbilical vein flow and maternal hemodynamics

Daniele Farsetti et al.

Summary: The study found that using QUV and maternal hemodynamics examination can accurately distinguish between SGA and FGR, with significant decrease in QUV and cQUV in early FGR, and lower maternal CO in both early and late FGR.

Maternal peripheral vascular resistance at mid gestation in chronic hypertension as a predictor of fetal growth restriction

Barbara Vasapollo et al.

Summary: This study found a strong relationship between maternal hemodynamics as expressed by PVR at mid gestation and fetal growth at delivery in chronic hypertension. PVR at mid gestation was strongly correlated with birthweight at delivery and the diagnosis of fetal growth restriction. This finding highlights the importance of maternal hemodynamics for identifying chronic hypertensive patients at risk for developing fetal growth restriction.

Maternal hemodynamics for the identification of early fetal growth restriction in normotensive pregnancies

Daniele Farsetti et al.

Summary: This study aimed to test the accuracy of systemic vascular resistance (SVR) in identifying early fetal growth restriction (FGR). The findings showed that SVR levels could correctly identify patients who later developed FGR, as well as those with subsequent umbilical artery Doppler alterations. These results highlight the potential importance of introducing USCOM for the identification and treatment of FGR in clinical practice.

Summary: Tailored circulatory normalization of nonphysiological hemodynamic changes during pregnancy can reduce the risk of recurrent preeclampsia in high-risk populations. This simple and innovative treatment strategy shows no adverse effects on offspring outcomes.
