Cu2O-loaded TiO2 heterojunction composites for enhanced photocatalytic H2 production

Jun-Li Chen et al.

Summary: Cu2O/TiO2 heterogeneous materials were prepared via simple hydrothermal and physical mixing processes to study their photocatalytic H-2 production performance. The CT-70 (70 wt% of TiO2) showed superior photocatalytic activity with H-2 production of 8.33 mmol g(-1) in 6 h, significantly outperforming Cu2O and TiO2. The enhancement of H-2 generation was attributed to the proper band gap structure and heterojunction between Cu2O and TiO2. This work provides a strategy for preparing composite materials with high photocatalytic activity.

Visible light-driven photocatalytic hydrogen production using Cu2O/TiO2 composites prepared by facile mechanochemical synthesis

Marica Muscetta et al.

Summary: A visible light-driven photocatalytic hydrogen production system using a Cu2O/TiO2 composite material was evaluated. A simple ball-milling method was proposed for preparing the Cu2O/TiO2 photocatalyst, and the effects of Cu2O loading and operating conditions were analyzed. The results indicated that the optimized composite catalyst achieved high hydrogen production and light to chemical conversion under visible light conditions.

Dendritic branching Z-scheme Cu2O/TiO2 heterostructure photocatalysts for boosting H2 production

Yong-Hui Zhang et al.

Summary: Cu2O/TiO2 composite with Z-scheme mechanism showed significantly higher photocatalytic hydrogen production activity compared to pure Cu2O and TiO2, due to enhanced light absorption and efficient charge separation. The Z-scheme mechanism was elucidated and confirmed by EPR investigations and DFT calculation, providing guidance for constructing efficient Z-scheme photocatalysts for solar fuel production.

Summary: This study designed and constructed oxygen vacancy stimulated direct Z-scheme Cu2O/TiO2 hybrid photocatalysts using a Cu2+ ions adsorption-reduction strategy, with a proposed all-solid direct Z-scheme electron transport mechanism to explain their high activity and stability. The catalyst showed enhanced hydrogen evolution rate and quantum yield in both water and seawater.
