Functional role of branched chain amino acids in poultry: a review

Woo Kyun Kim et al.

Summary: This review discusses the effects of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) on poultry growth, production performance, immunity, and intestinal health. The imbalance of BCAA ratio in a low protein diet can hinder poultry growth performance. The recommended levels of BCAA for poultry are influenced by the type of diet, breed, and age of the birds. BCAA supplementation in low protein diets can reduce nitrogen excretion. Further research is needed to understand the impact of BCAA inclusion ratio in different disease-challenged conditions.

Histomonosis in Poultry: A Comprehensive Review

Lesleigh C. Beer et al.

Summary: Histomonas meleagridis is a poultry parasite primarily detrimental to turkeys, causing characteristic lesions in the liver and ceca with high mortality rates. Treating and preventing H. meleagridis infection has become more difficult since the removal of nitarsone from the market. Phytogenic compounds show potential for prevention, but further research is needed. Although turkeys and chickens exhibit some resistance to re-infection, there are currently no commercial vaccines available.

Excretion of Histomonas meleagridis following experimental co-infection of distinct chicken lines with Heterakis gallinarum and Ascaridia galli

Gurbuz Das et al.

Summary: Histomonosis is a severe re-emerging disease of poultry caused by Histomonas meleagridis. In this study, different chicken lines were infected with nematodes and protozoan parasites to investigate co-infection dynamics. The results showed differences in the excretion of H. meleagridis among genetically different host lines.
