Associations between bone mass, hormone levels, and body composition in postmenopausal women

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate body composition parameters and hormone levels as risk factors for low bone mass in postmenopausal women. The results showed that body mass index, estradiol, waist circumference, appendicular lean mass, and fat mass index were lower in women with low bone mass. Appendicular lean mass was found to be a significant independent predictor against low bone mass in postmenopausal women.

Associations of Hormonal and Metabolic Parameters with Bone Mineralization in Young Adult Females

Summary: Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by impaired bone mineralization and microarchitecture. This study aimed to examine the impact of hormonal and metabolic parameters on bone mineralization in young adult female patients. The results showed a significant correlation between bone mineral density and estradiol concentration, as well as a negative relationship between cortisol concentration and lumbar spine bone mineral density. However, sclerostin measurements were not useful in evaluating bone mineralization in this population.

The Relationship between Bone Mineral Densitometry and Visceral Adiposity Index in Postmenopausal Women

Summary: The objective of this study was to compare visceral adiposity index (VAI) levels in patients with normal bone mineral density (BMD), osteopenia, and osteoporosis. The results showed higher VAI levels in the normal BMD group compared to the osteoporosis group, suggesting a possible association between VAI and osteoporosis. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to elucidate this relationship.

Diagnosis of Obesity: 2022 Update of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Obesity by the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity

Summary: The global prevalence of obesity is consistently increasing, leading to the emergence of many obesity-related diseases as major health problems. Body mass index (BMI) is used to define obesity and is strongly associated with body fat mass. Additionally, obesity-related morbidities increase proportionately with BMI. The Korean Society for the Study of Obesity has defined overweight as a BMI >23 kg/m2 and obesity as a BMI >25 kg/m2, based on a significant increase in obesity-related diseases. A waist circumference of >90 cm in men and >85 cm in women is defined as abdominal obesity, which is also correlated with obesity-related diseases. The updated guidelines place greater emphasis on using morbidity as the basis for diagnosing obesity and abdominal obesity. These new guidelines will assist in identifying and managing high-risk groups for obesity-related comorbidities among Korean adults.

National General Health Screening Program in Korea: history, current status, and future direction A scoping review

The General Health Screening Program (GHSP) in Korea, which initially targeted workers in the 1950s, has expanded to include the entire adult population. The program focuses on diseases like cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases, along with other conditions such as anemia, liver disease, and mental health disorders. The National Health Information Database, which includes GHSP information, is extensively utilized for clinical and public health research. However, there is a need to evaluate screening items systematically, reduce disparities in participation, and integrate GHSP with actual health promotion activities.
