Designing polar textures with ultrafast neuromorphic features from atomistic simulations

Sergey Prosandeev et al.

Summary: This review summarizes recent works using a specific atomistic approach to predict and explain key features for neuromorphic computing in three archetypical dipolar materials subject to THz excitations. The main ideas of this atomistic approach are provided, and examples of relaxor ferroelectrics, antiferroelectrics, and normal ferroelectrics are given to highlight the potential of polar materials for neuromorphic computing. The review emphasizes the connection between neuromorphic features and percolation theory, local minima in energy path, topological transitions, and/or anharmonic oscillator model, depending on the material under investigation. By considering three different polar material families, this work provides a complete and innovative toolbox for designing polar-based neuromorphic systems.

Evaluation of Sputtered Tape Media With Hard Disk Drive Components

Pierre-Olivier Jubert et al.

Summary: The magnetic properties and recording capability of sputtered tape media were evaluated using HDD components. The addition of a magnetic cap significantly improved the performance of the sputtered tape, including recording performance. The results demonstrate the potential of achieving high areal density and further improvements in the tape medium.

Deterministic control of ferroelectric polarization by ultrafast laser pulses

Peng Chen et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the control of electric polarization in ferroelectric materials at room temperature. By conducting simulations, the authors reveal the reasons behind the observed transient partial reversal and propose a method to deterministically control the ferroelectric polarization using stimuli. These findings provide guidance for the development of novel ultrafast optoferroic devices.

317 Gb/in2 Recording Areal Density on Strontium Ferrite Tape

Simeon Furrer et al.

Summary: The recording performance of a new prototype magnetic tape based on perpendicularly oriented strontium ferrite particles is investigated using a 29 nm wide tunneling magnetoresistive reader. With a post-detection byte-error rate (BER) of 2.8e-2, advanced track following technologies were developed to enable aggressive track-density scaling and reliable recording.
