Lymphadenectomy and margin-negative resection for biliary tract cancer surgery in the United States-Differential technical performance by approach

Bradford J. Kim et al.

Summary: This study found that the rate of lymphadenectomy for biliary tract tumors is low nationwide, regardless of the surgical approach, especially with laparoscopic surgery. As the use of minimally invasive surgery continues to increase in the treatment of biliary tract cancers, scrutiny of oncologic outcomes is required.

Prognostic Significance of NLR, PLR, LMR and Tumor Infiltrating T Lymphocytes in Patients Undergoing Surgical Resection for Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma

Zhi-qiang Lin et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic significance of preoperative inflammatory indicators and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA). The results showed that NLR was negatively correlated with CD3(+) and CD8(+) T cell infiltration, while LMR was positively correlated with CD3(+) T cell infiltration. In addition, LMR was found to be an independent factor for predicting survival in HCCA patients.

A Study on Radial Margin Status in Resected Perihilar Cholangiocarcinoma

Kentaro Shinohara et al.

Summary: The study investigated the status of radial margin (RM) in resected perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHCC) and found that positive RM was the most common cause of R1 resection, with a positivity rate of 61.2%. The survival of patients with positive RM was poorer than that of R0 patients and similar to patients with positive ductal margin (DM). Meticulous handling of resected specimens is crucial for accurately evaluating RM status along with DM status.

Prognostic significance of pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients with laryngeal cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Fangyu Yang et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that a higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is significantly associated with poorer prognosis in patients with laryngeal cancer (LC). NLR values can assist clinicians in determining the prognosis of LC patients.

Prognostic value of resection margin length after surgical resection for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

Hongxu Zhu et al.

Summary: This study suggests that a resection margin length >= 1.0 cm is associated with significantly improved survival in patients undergoing resection for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Therefore, achieving a clear margin of at least 1.0 cm during ICC resection is recommended for better outcomes.

Role of Inflammatory and Immune-Nutritional Prognostic Markers in Patients Undergoing Surgical Resection for Biliary Tract Cancers

Simone Conci et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic performance of different inflammatory and immune-nutritional markers in patients undergoing surgery for biliary tract cancer (BTC). The results showed that LMR is an independent prognostic factor for long-term survival, while PNI is associated with higher risk of postoperative mortality.
