The role of dysprosium oxide (Dy2O3) on gamma and neutron radiation protection properties of lead borosilicate glasses by using Monte Carlo simulation MCNPX code and Phy-X/PSD software

M. W. Aladailah et al.

Summary: The role of dyprosium oxide (Dy2O3)-doped PbO-B2O3-SiO2 glasses in gamma and neutron radiation shielding was investigated. The glass samples were evaluated in terms of mass attenuation coefficient (MAC), half-value layer (HVL), effective atomic number (Z(eff)), and energy absorption build-up factors (EBF and EABF). The results showed that the 5 mol% Dy2O3-doped glass had significant gamma-ray shielding efficacy and stronger neutron shielding characteristics compared to other samples.

Nb2O5-TeO2 and Nb2O5-Li2O-TeO2 glasses: Evaluation of elastic properties

Amin Abd El-Moneim et al.

Summary: The elastic properties of xNb(2)O(5)-(1-x)TeO2 and 0.5xNb(2)O(5)-0.5xLi(2)O-(1-x)TeO2 glass systems were evaluated to understand the structural role of Nb2O5 and Li2O in the tellurite network. When Nb2O5 is added, NbO6 structural units and strong Te-O-Nb linkages are formed, leading to an increase in elastic moduli of the glass system. The discrepancy between experimental and theoretical results was attributed to the structural units formed in the tellurite network when TeO2 is substituted by Nb2O5 and Li2O.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of CeO2 and Er2O3 on the physical, structural, and mechanical properties of a B2O3-Na2O-Al2O3 glass composition. CeO2 and Er2O3 doping affected radiation shielding properties and optical properties, with 1 mol% Er2O3 showing a better reduction in reflectivity of gamma rays compared to 1 mol% CeO2. The structural and mechanical properties of the doped borate glasses were also examined and compared.

Glass formation and properties of the TeO2-ZnO-BaO tellurite optical glasses

J. Hrabovsky et al.

Summary: In this study, the glass forming ability and properties of TeO2-ZnO-BaO (TZB) optical glasses prepared at 900 degrees C using the melt-quenching method were thoroughly investigated. The introduction of ZnO and/or BaO led to changes in glass transition temperature, refractive index, and density. Raman scattering was used to analyze the structure of the TZB glasses, which exhibited good thermal stability and a wide spectral region of transparency. These glasses with high refractive index values can be utilized as optical materials.

Investigation of photon attenuation factors for TeO2-Bi2O3-B2O3 glass systems using SRIM codes, EPICS2017 library and Phy-X/PSD

M. I. Sayyed et al.

Summary: This study examined the photon shielding characteristics of the TeO2-Bi2O3-B2O3 ternary glass system using EPICS2017 library and Phy-X/PSD software. The results showed that substituting Bi2O3 with TeO2 and/or B2O3 decreased the total atomic cross-section of the glass, leading to a decrease in the mass attenuation coefficient (MAC). The linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) was found to be higher in the low energy zone and the lowest values were observed at 2.506 MeV. The half-value layer (HVL) and tenth value layer (TVL) results indicated that the TeBiB1-TeBiB7 samples were effective attenuators of low energetic radiation.
