Structure and Luminescence Studies of a Ce3+-Activated Ba5La3MgAl3O15 Green-Emitting Phosphor

Masato Iwaki et al.

Summary: A novel green-emitting Ba5La3MgAl3O15:Ce3+ (BLMAO:Ce3+) phosphor was successfully synthesized by a solid-state reaction. BLMAO, inspired by the crystal structure of Ba6La2A1.5Fe2.5O15, exhibited a green emission with a peak around 500 nm under near-ultraviolet light excitation at 412 nm due to Ce3+ doping. The internal and external quantum efficiencies of BLMAO:0.02Ce3+ were found to be 27% and 22%, respectively. The position of Ce3+ ion in the crystal lattice was determined through emission peak deconvolution and Dorenbos model calculation. The potential of BLMAO:Ce3+ for phosphor-converted white LEDs (pc-wLEDs) was systematically evaluated based on Rietveld refinement and luminescence measurement.

Blue-excited red emission of CeO2:Eu3+, Al3+ cubic phosphor: Influence of Al3+ ion doping and Judd-Ofelt theory

Nguyen Van Hai et al.

Summary: A series of CeO2: 0.1 Eu3+, xAl3+ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 mol %) red phosphors that can efficiently be excited with blue light were successfully prepared by solid-state reaction. The red emission intensity of the phosphors was significantly enhanced when co-doped with 0.3% mol Al3+, attributed to the presence of Al3+ ions forming oxygen vacancies and disturbing the symmetry of the host, leading to an effectively enhanced red emission. The CeO2:0.1Eu3+, 0.3Al3+ phosphor showed intense red emission, a long lifetime (0.735 ms), and high quantum efficiency (49.46%), making it a suitable candidate for low-cost white LEDs.
