Nocturia and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: A systematic review

Francesco Di Bello et al.

Summary: Lower urinary tract symptoms, especially nocturia, are a significant public health problem worldwide, particularly in elderly individuals, and are associated with sleep disorders and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. However, the causes and pathophysiology of nocturia in OSAS patients have not been thoroughly examined. The effect of treatment on managing nocturia in OSAS patients also remains unclear.

The role of morphometric and respiratory factors in predicting the severity and evolution of urinary symptoms in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Sergio S. Fernandez-Pello et al.

Summary: Morphometry and spirometry parameters such as abdominal or neck diameter, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC were predictive of the severity and evolution of LUTS in patients with OSAS before and after CPAP treatment. The study included 43 patients, with IPSS decreasing by 3.58 points and nocturia decreasing to once per night after treatment. Neck diameter, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC were significant predictors of initial LUTS severity, while neck diameter, abdominal perimeter, and FEV1/FVC significantly predicted LUTS evolution throughout the study.

Prevalence and predictive factors of nocturia in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: A retrospective cross-sectional study

Yeon Hak Chung et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of nocturia in patients with OSAS and identified factors that could predict nocturia in these patients. The results showed that approximately one-third of OSAS patients had nocturia, and the nocturia group had poorer sleep quality. Nocturia was more prominent in males and was associated with severe sleep hypoxia.

Olfactory-related quality of life impacts psychological distress in people with COVID-19: The affective implications of olfactory dysfunctions

Vincenzo Bochicchio et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the association between different dimensions of olfactory dysfunction and psychological distress in people diagnosed with COVID-19. The results showed that impairment in olfactory quality of life was associated with psychological distress. This suggests a strong link between mood, perceived quality of life, and olfactory functioning.
