The interaction of the surface active ionic liquid with nonionic surfactants (Triton X-100 and Triton X-405) in aqueous solution by using tensiometry method

Roshanak Kishani Farahani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synergistic interactions between an ionic liquid and non-ionic surfactants in aqueous solution. The addition of the ionic liquid increases the critical micelle concentration of the surfactant solution and allows for the modification of its physicochemical properties. Thermodynamic analysis shows that the micellization process is spontaneous and becomes more favorable with the addition of the non-ionic component.

Biological activity of quaternary ammonium salts and resistance of microorganisms to these compounds

Ewa Oblak et al.

Summary: Quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) are widely distributed in nature and can be chemically synthesized, with diverse chemical structures and biological properties. They are extensively used in medicine, industry, and agriculture for their antimicrobial properties, which can also lead to microbial resistance to disinfectants and antibiotics.

Effect of dicationic ionic liquids on cloud points of tergitol surfactant and the formation of aqueous micellar two-phase systems

Caroline R. Bender et al.

Summary: The cloud point evaluation of the nonionic surfactant Tergitol 15-S-7 in aqueous solutions of McIlvaine buffer showed that dicationic ionic liquids with longer alkyl spacer chains led to an increase in the cloud point values of Tergitol. This increase in cloud point values was more pronounced with higher concentrations of dicationic ILs. Additionally, the addition of dicationic ILs increased the micelles size without affecting the hydrodynamic diameter of mixed micelles. Systems with lower critical micellar concentration values resulted in higher cloud point values due to greater colloidal dispersion stability.

Expanding the structural diversity of hydrophobic ionic liquids: physicochemical properties and toxicity of Gemini ionic liquids

Marshall S. Padilla et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids (ILs) are considered as a green alternative to traditional materials, but some hydrophobic ILs (HILs) have been found to be toxic. This study aims to diversify HILs by synthesizing two sets of HILs with unique cations and anions, totaling twenty different HILs. Each HIL is characterized using traditional physicochemical techniques and evaluated for toxicity using both in vitro and in vivo methods.
