Summary: A personal learning environment (PLE) is crucial for educators to support learners in collecting, creating, and organizing personalized learning tools. PLE allows learners to choose new tools based on their interests, making the learning process easier. The traditional approach of learning management systems (LMSs) where learners are passive consumers of information is being replaced by PLE, where learners make significant connections from various resources. By integrating a third-generation LMS, teachers can shift from passive to active learning and improve self-reflection (SR). This study examines the integration of the third-generation LMS in PLEs using Zimmerman's self-regulated learning (SRL) model and investigates the impact on learners' SR through a pretest and posttest conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: This article explores the practice of gamification pedagogy and post-secondary course design. It discusses the theory of gamified design and current research on its application as a pedagogy. A student-centric, motivationally based gamification design model is proposed, implemented, and evaluated. The resulting qualitative outcomes of a two-year implementation period are detailed, showing that the gamified course design resolved historical challenges and increased student engagement. Gamification pedagogy proved uniquely effective for two sub-groups of students, those struggling with anxiety and second language learners.
