Research translation: A pathway for health inequity

Summary: In a context of social inequity, research translation can exacerbate health inequality. The Fundamental Cause Theory explains this phenomenon and empirical evidence shows that those with more resources benefit more from scientific innovation, widening the health disparities based on socioeconomic status and race/ethnicity. However, this critical reality is often not at the center of the research translation discussion, undermining efforts to address health inequity.

Perceptions of workplace climate and diversity, equity, and inclusion within health services and policy research

Summary: This study examined the perception of professional climate in health services and policy research (HSPR), as well as efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the HSPR workforce and workplaces. The results showed that a significant number of participants believed that the current workforce did not reflect the diversity of communities impacted by HSPR and characterized DEI initiatives as tokenistic. Additionally, certain groups, such as females, minorities, and individuals with disabilities, experienced discrimination in the workplace. The study also found that current DEI initiatives were primarily focused on planning activities rather than implementation activities.
