Guidance on research integrity provided by pan-European discipline-specific learned societies: A scoping review

VIRT2UE: A European train-the-trainer programme for teaching research integrity

Summary: Universities and research institutions are increasingly offering additional training in research integrity to enhance the quality and reliability of research. A train-the-trainer program has been developed by a European Commission-funded consortium, focusing on virtue ethics, the ethos of science, and learner-centred teaching. The program combines e-learning modules with participatory group sessions, enabling trainers to guide researchers in reflecting on scientific virtues and promoting the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. The program has trained 470 trainers who have educated over 3300 researchers in Europe using the virtue-based approach.

Co-creating Research Integrity Education Guidelines for Research Institutions

Effective Strategies for Research Integrity Training-a Meta-analysis

Summary: This article reviews educational efforts to promote a responsible conduct of research (RCR) reported in scientific publications between 1990 and early 2020, with a focus on testing effective training strategies. Findings suggest that knowledge acquisition benefits from individualized learning and practical application of ethical standards, while emotionally engaging experiential learning is most effective. Intellectual deliberation on ethical problems is found to be less effective compared to experiential learning, and some previous findings could not be replicated with multivariate analysis. Several avenues for future research to enhance research integrity training effectiveness are suggested.
