Photoelectron imaging of PtI2- and its PtI- photodissociation product

Jemma A. Gibbard et al.

Summary: The photoelectron imaging of PtI2- ion was investigated, and it was found that PtI2 has an electron affinity of 3.4 +/- 0.1 eV. The photoelectron spectrum showed three distinct peaks corresponding to three low-lying neutral states. Photodissociation of PtI2- was also observed, resulting in the formation of I- and PtI- ions.

Summary: Photoelectron spectroscopy was used to study the electronic structure, photodetachment, and photodissociation of stable diplatinum iodide dianions [Pt2I6](2-) and [Pt2I8](2-). The results showed the complex electronic structure and multiple detachment channels of these compounds.
