Annealing free CeO2 electron transport layer for efficient perovskite solar cells

Jia Dong et al.

Summary: In this study, a stoichiometric CeO2 film was proposed as an annealing-free electron transport layer for efficient perovskite solar cells. The CeO2 nanocrystals were prepared via a solvothermal method and dispersed in cyclohexane to form a stable solution. The CeO2 electron transport layer was then fabricated by spin-coating method without any annealing or drying process. Optimization of the solvothermal reaction time resulted in CeO2 nanocrystals with excellent electron extraction performance. An efficiency of 16.53% was achieved after introducing a C60 interlayer.

Anti-reflective effect of CeO2 thin films produced by sol-gel method on crystalline silicon solar cells

Imran Kanmaz et al.

Summary: Considering the optical properties of CeO2 thin films, this study investigated their anti-reflective effect on crystalline silicon solar cells. Optimization experiments were conducted to determine the optimal thickness, molarity, coating speed, annealing temperature, and annealing time for CeO2 thin films. The results showed that 0.3 M concentration, 6000 rpm coating speed, 400 °C annealing temperature, and 120 min annealing time were the optimum values. Applying these optimized values increased the efficiency of the c-Si solar cells from 11.57% to 16.89% compared to the uncoated cells.

High-Responsivity Heterojunction Photodetector Based on Bi2O3-Decorated MWCNTs Nanostructure Grown on Silicon via Laser Ablation in Liquid

Suaad S. Shaker et al.

Summary: A high-responsivity bismuth oxide nanoparticles-decorated multiwalled carbon nanotubes/silicon heterojunction photodetector was prepared using two-step laser ablation in liquid. The structural properties of the hybrid nanoparticles were analyzed, and the presence of alpha-Bi2O3 nanoparticles and graphite at the C(002) plane was confirmed. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the formation of spherical Bi2O3 nanoparticles attached to well-dispersed multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The photodetector showed good responsivity and external quantum efficiency at a wavelength of 560 nm.

Fabrication of CeO2/CuI thin film with CdO as a buffer - A heterojunction diode

K. M. Archana et al.

Summary: Solar photovoltaics have gained popularity due to their ease of manufacture, materials availability, use, and low cost. In this study, CuI was synthesized using the extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flowers, while CeO2 and CdO were synthesized using the citrate-nitrate sol-gel method. The obtained crystals were characterized, and it was found that CuI had prismatic particles, while CeO2 and CdO had spherical particles. The results showed that the CeO2/CuI heterojunction exhibited better diode behavior in the presence of CdO as a buffer layer.

A Comparison of Different Textured and Non-Textured Anti-Reflective Coatings for Planar Monolithic Silicon-Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells

Michael Spence et al.

Summary: Multijunction solar cells have the potential to exceed the efficiency limit of single-junction devices. To reduce optical reflection losses in silicon-perovskite tandem devices, textured anti-reflective coatings (ARCS) such as textured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) can be used. This study found that PDMS film can significantly reduce the reflectance of non-textured silicon-perovskite tandem cells and increase the integrated J(SC) by 3-5% in each sub-cell.

Deposition of grid-like single-crystal Ce2O3 thin films on LaAlO3(100) substrate by pulsed laser deposition

Mustafa Tolga Yurtcan

Summary: The growth of oxygen-deficient Ce2O3 requires reduction of CeO2 with hydrogen gas at high temperatures. The use of a desiccated target results in the deposition of pure Ce2O3 and CeO2-Ce2O3 mixture thin films. The morphology of the thin films, characterized by grid-like surface formation in Ce2O3 films, was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. Further desiccation of the target resulted in single-crystal Ce2O3 growth, attributed to stoichiometric transfer of the target composition.

Stable and efficient Sb2Se3 solar cells with solution-processed NiOx hole-transport layer

Liping Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, an n-i-p structure was fabricated for Sb2Se3 solar cells by integrating a solution-processed NiOx hole-transport layer to enhance carrier collection, resulting in an improved power conversion efficiency from 6.12% to 7.15% with a 50 nm NiOx HTL. The mechanism behind the enhanced device performance was characterized through material microstructure, device physics, and interface electronic behaviors, showing that the low-cost NiOx HTL can also improve device stability under accelerated stress tests.

Synthesis of Cerium Dioxide Nanoparticles by Gas/Liquid Pulsed Discharge Plasma in a Slug Flow Reactor

Wanying Zhu et al.

Summary: A novel synthesis method for CeO2 nanoparticles using atmospheric-pressure pulsed discharge plasma in a slug flow system was proposed, providing an efficient and continuous reaction at room temperature. The use of cerium nitrate and starch as stabilizers helped to prevent aggregation of nanoparticles. Characterization of the products using TEM and UV-vis spectroscopy revealed an increase in quantity and size of CeO2 nanoparticles.
