Argon plasma-modified bacterial cellulose filters for protection against respiratory pathogens

Anna Zywicka et al.

Summary: In this study, we developed sustainable filters using bacterial cellulose (BC) functionalized with low-pressure argon plasma (LPP-Ar). The LPP-Ar-BC-bM material exhibited excellent antimicrobial and antiviral properties without cytotoxicity. Three-layer filters made of LPP-Ar-BC-bM showed high filtration efficiency with low airflow resistance. Additionally, masks with LPP-Ar-BC-bM filters were well-received by volunteer medical staff in terms of comfort.

Gaseous formaldehyde adsorption by eco-friendly, porous bamboo carbon microfibers obtained by steam explosion, carbonization, and plasma activation

Ganmao Su et al.

Summary: In this study, porous bamboo carbon microfibers (BCMFs) with different oxygen-containing and nitrogen-containing functional groups were prepared using steam explosion, carbonization, and plasma activation. The results showed that BCMF-800-O-240 and BCMF-800-N-120 had the highest formaldehyde adsorption capacities, which were 85.90% and 112.50% higher than BCMF-800, respectively. The introduction of carboxyl and pyrrolic N functional groups played a crucial role in enhancing the formaldehyde adsorption. This work provides a new insight into the development of eco-friendly biomass-based adsorbents for gaseous formaldehyde.

Low-temperature reduction of SnO2 by floating wire-assisted medium-pressure H2/Ar plasma

Thi-Thuy-Nga Nguyen et al.

Summary: Spherical Sn particles and Sn etching can be achieved by employing floating wire-assisted medium-pressure H2/Ar plasma to reduce SnO2. Compared to atmospheric pressure, high-density H2/Ar plasma at medium pressure with a larger treatment area exhibits a two-times higher removal rate of SnO2. The two-step process involving reduction of SnO2 by FW-H2/Ar plasma and removal of low-contact Sn particles by water-based cleaning effectively removes SnO2 film from glass surface, while maintaining high surface smoothness and optical transmittance.

On the green aurora emission of Ar atmospheric pressure plasma

Fengwu Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the green aurora emission of Ar plasma in a long glass tube. The findings suggest that the green emission is not due to the mixture of Ar plasma with the surrounding air. It is also observed that adding traces of O-2 or N-2 can decrease the green emission intensity. Furthermore, the intensity of the green emission increases with higher driving voltage frequency. The contact of a grounded stainless steel needle with the plasma plume does not affect the green aurora emission.

Plasma Treatment for Cellulose in Tobacco Paper-Base: The Improvement of Surface Hydrophilicity and Mechanical Property

Zhao Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a plasma treatment method to enhance the hydrophilicity and mechanical properties of cellulose in reconstituted tobacco paper-base. The plasma treatment accelerates the absorption and infiltration rates of water droplets. The increased content of methylene and alkyl groups enables the paper-base to absorb more useful substances from tobacco extract, leading to improved mechanical performance.

Emission Rhythm from Atmospheric Pressure He Plasma Jets

Takao Fukuyama et al.

Summary: The emission rhythm of atmospheric pressure He plasma jets is investigated experimentally. A comparison between the time series of electromagnetic radiation and high-speed camera images shows that the system repeatedly emits light at the fundamental frequency of plasma radiation. Furthermore, the interaction between two plasma jets significantly increases the rate at which both jets emit brightly together.
