Recent Advances on Fine-Tuning Engineering Strategies of CeO2-Based Nanostructured Catalysts Exemplified by CO2 Hydrogenation Processes

Georgios Varvoutis et al.

Summary: This review article discusses the design and functionalization strategies of ceria-based catalysts, focusing on CO2 hydrogenation processes. It is found that enhancing redox capabilities and increasing oxygen vacancies in ceria can greatly enhance the activation of CO2. Additionally, morphology engineering and doping strategies of ceria-based catalysts can significantly affect the CO2 hydrogenation performance. The conclusions from this work provide important principles for designing cost-efficient, highly active, and earth-abundant metal oxide systems for various energy and environmental applications.
