Understanding water inrush hazard of weak geological structure in deep mine engineering: A seepage-induced erosion model considering tortuosity

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: A numerical method was proposed to calculate the tortuosity of fractured fault rocks in deep mine engineering. The simulation method was shown to have high accuracy through convergence tests. The evolution of tortuosity can be categorized into four stages, and there is an exponential relationship between tortuosity and porosity of fractured rock mass. A new concept, porous tortuosity index, was introduced in this study to reflect the spatial distribution of particles and particle size distribution of fractured rocks. Considering the tortuosity of the fractured rock mass can improve the accuracy of permeability, non-Darcy coefficient, and Forchheimer coefficient, which is important for predicting water inrush in weak geological structures.

Risk assessment of fault water inrush during deep mining

Zhaodan Cao et al.

Summary: With the depletion of shallow coal resources, the Yanzhou mine in China will enter the lower coal seam mining phase. However, the lower coal seam mining in Yanzhou is threatened by water intrusion in the Benxi Formation limestone and Ordovician limestone as mining depth increases. The existing prediction models for water bursts at the bottom of the coal seam are less accurate than expected due to various controlling factors and their intrinsic links. By analyzing hydrogeological exploration data and combining the results of water intrust coefficient method and pressure seepage test, an evaluation model for the seepage barrier capacity of faults was established. The evaluation results show that water from the underlying limestone aquifer mainly threatens lower coal mining through fault fracture zones in the Baodian mine area. The safety of mining above confined aquifers in the Baodian mine area gradually decreases from southwest to northeast. By comparing water intrust coefficient method and the evaluation model of fault impermeability, the evaluation model based on seepage barrier conditions is closer to the actual situation when analyzing water breakout at the working face.

Numerical Simulation of Water-Silt Inrush Hazard of Fault Rock: A Three-Phase Flow Model

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: A one-dimensional radial three-phase flow model of water-rock-silt was established to investigate the hydraulic characteristics of fault rock during water-silt inrush. The accuracy of the proposed model was verified through laboratory tests and the temporal-spatial distribution of hydraulic properties was obtained.

Solid grain migration on hydraulic properties of fault rocks in underground mining tunnel: Radial seepage experiments and verification of permeability prediction

Dan Ma et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the hydraulic properties of fault rock through one-dimensional radial seepage experiments. The results show that the permeability and porosity increase with time, and the occurrence process of water inflow can be divided into four stages. It is also found that the decrease of grain size distribution and the increase of water pressure lead to significant changes in hydraulic properties. The Carman-Kozoeny model demonstrates the highest accuracy among the tested prediction models, and it predicts a higher final permeability closer to the water outlet.

Upper limit analysis of stability of the water-resistant rock mass of a Karst tunnel face considering the seepage force

Wenlong Wu et al.

Summary: This study established a stability analysis method for analyzing the water-resistant rock mass of a karst tunnel face based on the upper limit theorem of limit analysis and the Hoek-Brown failure criterion, taking into account the adverse influence of the seepage force. The results showed that the method proposed in this paper more accurately conformed to the actual situation of the project, effectively ensuring the construction safety of the tunnel segment adjacent to high-pressure karst cavities.

Dynamic Response of a Non-Darcian Seepage System in the Broken Coal of a Karst Collapse Pillar

Tian-jun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study used dynamic research methods to assess the stability of non-Darcian seepage and confirmed that parameter changes are a significant factor in mine water inrush accidents due to karst collapse pillars. The permeability parameters of the internal structure of a KCP play a crucial role in determining the evolution of water inrush accidents.
