Breastfeeding friendly pharmacy from pharmacists perspective

Mea'ad M. Harahsheh et al.

Summary: The primary goal of this research was to explore the awareness and perception of pharmacists about breastfeeding friendly pharmacy (BFPh) requirements. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a survey among community pharmacists. The majority of the recruited pharmacists were female and aged between 23 to 30 years. The most common steps to describe a pharmacy as BFPh were training all pharmacy staff and informing all pregnant women about the benefits of breastfeeding. The awareness of BFPh requirements was found to be associated with the age of pharmacists.

Review of the Nutrition Situation in Jordan: Trends and Way Forward

Narmeen Jamal Al-Awwad et al.

Summary: Jordan is experiencing an accelerating nutrition transition, which is associated with an increased burden of malnutrition and related non-communicable diseases. The nutrition situation in Jordan is analyzed based on specific indicators such as infant and young child feeding, micronutrient deficiencies, and food consumption patterns. The findings suggest that while breastfeeding initiation rates have increased, exclusive breastfeeding and continued breastfeeding until two years of age are low. Complementary feeding indicators are also suboptimal. The burden of low birthweight and overweight/obesity is worsening, along with deficiencies in iron, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Fruit and vegetable consumption is inadequate, while the consumption of soft drinks and salt exceeds recommendations.
