Analysis of MR fluid lubricated slot entry hybrid conical journal bearing with texturing arrangements

Krishnkant Sahu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a study on the slot-entry 'hybrid conical journal bearing system' (HCJBs) with the slot restrictor as a compensating device. The effects of different zonal arrangements of textured surfaces and smart behavior of magnetorheological fluid (MRF) on the HCJBs are analyzed. Mathematical modeling of the modified Reynolds equation is done using the Finite element method and the Gauss-Seidel method. Numerical simulation shows that the application of textured surfaces and MR fluid improves the performance of the hybrid conical bearing system in terms of fluid film thickness, stiffness, and stability.

Study of the impact of aeration on the lubricant behavior in a tapered roller bearing: Innovative numerical modelling and validation via particle image velocimetry

Lorenzo Maccioni et al.

Summary: The interaction between air and lubricant affects the lubrication mechanisms in rolling-element bearings due to aeration. This paper introduces a new Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model in the OpenFOAM environment specifically designed to consider aeration. Comparisons between numerical predictions and experimental data from a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) test rig show that the solver taking aeration into account provides more accurate results, especially at high shaft rotational speeds.

Misalignment and Surface Irregularities Effect in MR Fluid Journal Bearing

Krishnkant Sahu et al.

Summary: Misalignment affects the operation of the journal bearing system, and smart lubricants can enhance the performance of fluid film bearings. The study finds that journal misalignment reduces the fluid film thickness, increases the fluid film damping coefficient, and frictional torque.

Dynamic stability analysis of noncircular two-lobe journal bearings with couple stress lubricant regime

Mahdi Zare Mehrjardi

Summary: This research investigates the steady state and dynamic characteristics of two-lobe noncircular journal bearings with couple stress lubricant, showing that the efficiency of the bearings can be improved by using couple stress fluid. The study also analyzes the stability performance and rotor motion equations, demonstrating that an increase in the lubricant couple stress parameter enhances the bearings' ability to damp rotor perturbations. Additionally, changing lubricant properties has a more pronounced effect on bearing performance at higher values of the couple stress parameter, especially with an increase in noncircularity of bearings' geometry.

Elasto-hydrodynamic analysis of journal bearing operating with nanolubricants

Pravez Khan et al.

Summary: The study investigated and compared the performance parameters of rigid and flexible journal bearings using non-Newtonian nanolubricants. Results showed that using nanolubricants significantly increased load-carrying capacity, maximum pressure, and friction force, with these parameters increasing with the power law index. The study also found that elastic deformation had a minimal effect on performance parameters.

Dynamic stability of micropolar lubricated hydrodynamic offset-halves journal bearings

Sanyam Sharma et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the stability of non-circular offset bearings using the finite element method, with selected input parameters such as eccentricity factor and aspect ratio. Output parameters including load, critical mass, whirl frequency ratio, and threshold speed were computed and plotted, showing that micropolar lubricated circular offset bearings exhibit high stability at higher eccentricity factors and aspect ratios.

Maamar Malki et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effect of elastic deformations on the static characteristics of finite self-lubricating journal bearings. Results showed that the pseudo-plastic lubricant decreases the characteristics of the porous journal bearings, especially when considering the elasticity and permeability of the bush.
