Preparation and cellular uptake behaviors of uniform fiber-like micelles with length controllability and high colloidal stability in aqueous media

Junyu Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, uniform fiber-like micelles composed of a pi-conjugated oligo(p-phenylenevinylene) core and a crosslinking silica shell with grafted poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains were generated using living crystalline-driven self-assembly. These micelles exhibited excellent dispersity and colloidal stability, even in different aqueous solutions and elevated temperatures. Furthermore, the micelles showed low cytotoxicity and demonstrated length-dependent cellular uptake behaviors. These findings provide a promising approach for the preparation of uniform, colloidally stable fiber-like nanostructures with tunable length and functions for biomedical applications.

Fibers reinforced composite hydrogels with improved lubrication and load-bearing capacity

Jiawei Li et al.

Summary: In this study, fiber-reinforced composite hydrogels were prepared by mixing different types of micron-scale fibers with chemically crosslinked hydrogels. The experimental results showed significant improvements in the mechanical and tribological properties of the composite materials. Among them, the composite hydrogels reinforced with needle-punched fibers exhibited the best mechanical properties and tear resistance. Additionally, the hydrogel-spunlace fiber samples demonstrated the best load-bearing capacity and anti-wear properties. These enhanced composite hydrogels have the potential to be used as novel biomimetic lubrication materials.
