Unexpected Quasi-Axial Conformer in Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence DMAC-TRZ, Pushing Green OLEDs to Blue

Kleitos Stavrou et al.

Summary: Through experimental and computational studies, two conformers of DMAC-TRZ molecule, QA and QE, are discovered, and their impact on optical and electrical excitation is explored. The QA conformer plays a significant role in non-doped OLEDs, explaining the good performance of the material. In HF devices using v-DABNA emitter, direct energy transfer from the QA conformer to v-DABNA is observed, leading to improved Forster resonance energy transfer efficiency. Highly efficient OLEDs converting green light to blue light with a maximum external quantum efficiency close to 30% are demonstrated.

Confining donor conformation distributions for efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence with fast spin-flipping

Weidong Qiu et al.

Summary: The distribution of dihedral angles in film state has a significant impact on the excited state lifetimes of thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters. Researchers have developed a strategy to restrict conformation distribution and achieve fast spin-flipping for efficient organic light-emitting diodes. This is essential for exploiting triplet excitons in thermally activated delayed fluorescence based organic light-emitting diodes towards high efficiency, low efficiency roll-off, and long operating lifetime.

Photophysical Properties of Benzophenone-Based TADF Emitters in Relation to Their Molecular Structure

Ekin Esme Bas et al.

Summary: In this computational study, the researchers investigated TADF and non-TADF chromophores with benzophenone or its derivatives as the acceptor core and various donor moieties. They computed several excited state properties and utilized them, along with other descriptors, to study the potential TADF efficiency. The results showed that their descriptors and computational methodologies can effectively predict experimental results and provide guidance for future research on benzophenone-based TADF emitters.

Determining the Energy Gap between the S1and T1States ofThermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Molecular Systems UsingTransient Fluorescence Spectroscopy

Min Zheng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new, simple, and efficient strategy to accurately obtain the energy gap (Delta ES-T) in thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) systems. By using time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy and a specific TADF molecule as a representative, the elusive singlet-triplet coupling dynamics can be described and the Delta ES-T value can be determined. The approach is validated in different TADF molecules and sheds light on the energy-loss mechanisms in related photoconversion processes.

Quantum simulations of thermally activated delayed fluorescence in an all-organic emitter

Tommaso Francese et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the prototypical NAI-DMAC thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitter in the gas phase and high-packing fraction limits at finite temperature. By combining first principles molecular dynamics with a quantum thermostat, we account for nuclear quantum effects (NQE). Our findings show that the singlet-triplet energy gap has a weak dependence on temperature, but a substantial effect of packing. The transition probability between the HOMOs and LUMOs has a stronger dependence on temperature, which is desirable for thermally activated fluorescence.
