Hierarchically arranged gamma-NiOOH/beta-FeOOH layer supported on modified Molybdenum-BiVO4 thin film for oxygen evolution reaction

Shalini Kulandaivalu et al.

Summary: Constructing a BiVO4 electrode with an oxygen evolution catalyst and doping of molybdenum can enhance water oxidation performance without the use of sacrificial agents and binders. A single-step hydrothermal-based method is used to deposit nickel-iron (oxy)hydroxide onto the BiVO4 surface doped with 2% molybdenum, forming γ-NiOOH and β-FeOOH. Incorporating molybdenum reduces the difficulty of charge carrier transportation and the introduction of nickel-iron (oxy)hydroxide as a co-catalyst suppresses charge recombination, resulting in improved stability and photocurrent density of the BiVO4 electrode.
