Two-Dimensional Type-II BP/MoSi2P4 vdW Heterostructures for High-Performance Solar Cells

Yuan Guo et al.

Summary: By using first-principles calculations, this study demonstrates that a BP/MoSi2P4 van der Waals heterostructure exhibits a direct band gap and a typical type-II band alignment, which enables effective separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Compared to a MoSi2P4 monolayer, the BP/MoSi2P4 heterostructure shows significantly enhanced hole carrier mobility and optical absorption intensity. The predicted photoelectric conversion efficiency (PCE) for the BP/MoSi2P4 heterostructure reaches up to 22.2%, competing with existing two-dimensional heterostructures. These findings suggest that the 2D BP/MoSi2P4 heterostructure has potential for new optoelectronic nanodevices.

Summary: PtSe2 field-effect transistors exhibit p-type electrical conductivity sensitive to temperature and environmental pressure, with positive and negative photoconductivity coexisting under white light. Physisorbed oxygen molecules on the PtSe2 surface act as acceptors, affecting carrier concentration and optical properties through charge transfer mechanisms.

Franckeite as an Exfoliable Naturally Occurring Topological Insulator

Wendel S. Paz et al.

Summary: Franckeite is a natural superlattice composed of two alternating layers of different composition, which has potential for optoelectronic applications. Its layered nature allows for easy exfoliation into thin heterostructures. The complex chemical composition and lattice structure of franckeite have made it challenging to screen for materials with nontrivial topological properties. Density functional theory calculations predict a quantum phase transition originating from stoichiometric changes in one of franckeite's layers.
