Decoupled Solar Energy Storage and Dark Photocatalysis in a 3D Metal-Organic Framework

Philip M. Stanley et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the specific confinement of a rhenium coordination complex in a metal-organic framework (MOF) that enables unique electron accumulating property under visible-light irradiation. The material can concentrate and store electric charges for over four weeks without loss. It also allows decoupled, on-demand discharge for electrochemical reactions and H-2 evolution catalysis. Construction of triazine-heptazine-based carbon nitride heterojunctions boosts the selective photocatalytic C-C bond cleavage of lignin models

Qingqing Zhang et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic lignin depolymerization is a sustainable and cost-competitive method to produce aromatic chemicals from renewable resources. In this study, a photocatalytic strategy utilizing triazine-heptazine-based carbon nitride heterojunctions was developed to achieve high-yield aromatic monomers by promoting C-C bond cleavage in lignin models. The improved photocatalytic performance was attributed to the accelerated charge carriers separation and migration induced by the built-in electric field at the heterojunction interface, and the facilitated C & beta;-radical generation.

Trace water triggers high-efficiency photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production

Zaixiang Xu et al.

Summary: By using alkali-assisted C3N4 as photocatalyst in a water/alcohol mixture solvent, high-efficiency production of H2O2 with a concentration of 113 mmol L-1 can be achieved. The results suggest that alcohol provides and stabilizes center dot OOH radicals, while trace water triggers the photocatalytic production of H2O2 by completely consuming center dot OOH radicals, contributing to the high-efficiency production of H2O2.

Plasmonic Carbon Nitride Polymers to Boost Hydrogen Generation

Dehua Tian et al.

Summary: This article successfully constructs strong surface plasmon resonance (SPR) on carbon nitride polymers through photoelectron accumulation, enhancing photocatalytic performance. NCN modification separates the highest occupied molecular orbit/lowest unoccupied molecular orbit distribution in the electronic structure of carbon nitride, achieving efficient charge separation. The SPR of NCN-CNx is highly sensitive to oxygen and can be used as a plasmonic sensor for oxygen detection. Additionally, SPR greatly promotes photocatalytic hydrogen generation on NCN-CNx, with higher rates observed under specific irradiation wavelengths.
