Preexisting Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension in Acute Pulmonary Embolism

Stefano Barco et al.

Summary: This study found that 15% of patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) showed signs of chronic PE or chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) on CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA). Specific radiologic parameters, such as intravascular webs, arterial narrowing or retraction, dilated bronchial arteries, and right ventricular hypertrophy, could help identify preexisting CTEPH. Early diagnosis of CTEPH can be facilitated by targeted follow-up strategies and risk-adapted CTEPH screening based on these parameters.

Automated detection of pulmonary embolism from CT-angiograms using deep learning

Heidi Huhtanen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a deep neural network model for automated detection of pulmonary embolism using weakly labelled training data. Two versions of the model, one pre-trained with chest X-rays and the other with natural images, performed well on both stack- and slice-based levels. The model pre-trained with chest X-rays showed slightly better specificity and sensitivity compared to the model pre-trained with natural images.

Spectral Detector CT-Derived Pulmonary Perfusion Maps and Pulmonary Parenchyma Characteristics for the Semiautomated Classification of Pulmonary Hypertension

Summary: This study confirmed the usefulness of spectral detector CT (SDCT)-derived pulmonary perfusion maps and pulmonary parenchyma characteristics for the semiautomated classification of pulmonary hypertension (PH). This method can help identify different types of PH patients and provide important clinical information.

Intraindividual Consistency of Iodine Concentration in Dual-Energy Computed Tomography of the Chest and Abdomen

Summary: This study investigated the longitudinal reproducibility of iodine concentration (IC) in organs, vessels, and lymph nodes in healthy patients undergoing repetitive DECT imaging. The results showed intraindividual variation of IC among different anatomical areas, with normalization to the aorta improving reproducibility.

Imaging of Pulmonary Hypertension in Adults: A Position Paper from the Fleischner Society

Martine Remy-Jardin et al.

Summary: Pulmonary hypertension is a condition characterized by elevated mean pulmonary artery pressure, with radiologists playing a crucial role in its assessment and management. A working group was established to focus on the role of imaging techniques in diagnosing and managing PH, highlighting the importance of imaging in the recognition, work-up, treatment planning, and follow-up of PH.

Identification of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension on CTPAs performed for diagnosing acute pulmonary embolism depending on level of expertise

Gudula J. A. M. Boon et al.

Summary: Concomitant signs of CTEPH were poorly documented in daily practice, while most CTEPH patients were identified by CTEPH-non-expert readers after dedicated instruction. These findings underline the feasibility of achieving earlier CTEPH diagnosis by assessing CTPAs more attentively.
