Emergent modified gravity: Covariance regained

Martin Bojowald et al.

Summary: This article presents a complete derivation of covariance conditions for the gauge theory in general relativity and applies it to spherically symmetric vacuum models. The presence of structure functions in the constraint brackets is shown to lead to new theories of modified gravity that are not of higher-curvature form.

An effective model for the quantum Schwarzschild black hole

Asier Alonso-Bardaji et al.

Summary: We propose an effective theory for quantizing spherically symmetric vacuum based on loop quantum gravity. By incorporating anomaly-free holonomy corrections, through a canonical transformation and a linear combination of constraints of general relativity, we ensure the closure of the modified constraint algebra. The resulting system is endowed with a fully covariant and unambiguous geometric description, independent of the gauge choice on the phase space. The obtained spacetime consists of a singularity-free (black-hole/white-hole) interior and two asymptotically flat exterior regions with equal masses. The interior region contains a minimal smooth spacelike surface that replaces the Schwarzschild singularity. We analyze the global causal structure and the maximal analytical extension, and recover both Minkowski and Schwarzschild spacetimes as particular limits of the model.

New Relativistic Theory for Modified Newtonian Dynamics

Constantinos Skordis et al.

Summary: The proposed relativistic gravitational theory leads to a modified Newtonian dynamics paradigm that explains the observed universal galactic acceleration scale and related phenomena. It meets the phenomenological requirements and is consistent with the observed cosmic microwave background and matter power spectra on linear cosmological scales. The theory shows stability without ghost instabilities and the possibility of being embedded in a more fundamental theory.

Holonomy and inverse-triad corrections in spherical models coupled to matter

Asier Alonso-Bardaji et al.

Summary: This study introduces the application of Loop quantum gravity theory in spherically symmetric spacetimes, proposing holonomy and inverse-triad corrections and developing anomaly-free effective constraints encoding these corrections. By modifying the Hamiltonian constraint, a modified Hamiltonian in the form of a first-class algebra is obtained, constructing a family of consistent deformations of spherical general relativity. The analysis also explores the cases of vacuum model and two matter models, concluding that holonomy corrections are not allowed under certain matter fields.

Anomaly-free deformations of spherical general relativity coupled to matter

Asier Alonso-Bardaji et al.

Summary: A systematic approach is developed to obtain spherically symmetric midisuperspace models with matter fields, showing that scale-dependent holonomy corrections can be consistently implemented. The deformed anomaly-free Hamiltonian is explicitly written in terms of three free functions, and a weak observable representing the mass of the model is obtained. Additionally, a specific covariant polymeric model is presented, remaining regular for any value of the connection components and commenting on its physical implications and relation to previous studies.
