Development of a SiPM Pixel prototype for the Large-Sized Telescope of the Cherenkov Telescope Array

D. Depaoli et al.

Summary: The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a new generation gamma-ray observatory on the ground. It consists of different types of telescopes, with the large-sized telescopes (LSTs) covering the energy range from 20 GeV to 200 GeV. The first LST is currently being tested at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma, Canary Islands. To improve the camera performance, researchers are studying a novel Advanced Camera equipped with Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) and a fully digital electronics system. Laboratory measurements have been conducted to validate the design choices regarding timing and charge resolution.

Characterizing the aerosol atmosphere above the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos by analysing seven years of data taken with an GaAsP HPD-readout, absolutely calibrated elastic LIDAR

Christian Fruck et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new concept of elastic LIDAR based on a bi-axially mounted Nd:YAG laser and a telescope with HPD readout, combined with fast FADC signal digitization and offline pulse analysis. Seven years of quasi-continuous LIDAR data taken during the operation of the MAGIC telescopes are analysed. The nocturnal ground layer is characterized, and aerosol transmission statistics and seasonal dependencies of cloud base and top altitudes are derived. The night sky background light is also characterized using the LIDAR photon backgrounds.

Effect of the uncertainty in the hadronic interaction models on the estimation of the sensitivity of the Cherenkov telescope array

Michiko Ohishi et al.

Summary: IACTs are ground-based detectors for cosmic gamma rays, with rejection of cosmic-ray backgrounds being crucial for sensitivity. Monte Carlo simulations are used to estimate residual background rates and sensitivity. Different hadronic interaction models can lead to significant variations in background rates and estimated gamma-ray sensitivity.
