Combining PCA and nonlinear fitting of peak models to re-evaluate C 1s XPS spectrum of cellulose

Vincent Fernandez et al.

Summary: Cellulose undergoes new chemistry in response to XPS, but recent studies have shown that this can be detrimental to some materials. This study analyzes cellulose spectra obtained during a degradation study, revealing that cellulose degrades through the creation of carbon chemistry involving C-O, C--O and O-C--O. The findings are relevant to any material analyzed by XPS dependent on hydrogen bonds. The analysis techniques are based on an informed vectorial approach, utilizing mathematical methods such as Principal Component Analysis and linear analysis.

A study of in situ reduction of MoO3 to MoO2 by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

Ben M. Garland et al.

Summary: The study presents results from X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of molybdenum oxide samples, showing how Mo (VI) oxide evolves to Mo (IV) oxide upon heating. A new method of data processing using sample modification to inform XPS data interpretation is proposed. The study provides insights into the transformations of molybdenum oxide under heat, supporting the interpretation of tetravalent Mo powders as multivalent materials.

Systematic and collaborative approach to problem solving using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Neal Fairley et al.

Summary: The methodology presented in this work is a result of interactions between junior and senior XPS users within the CasaXPS framework, particularly through workshops organized by IMN. The discussions from these workshops have been instrumental in developing the XPS data processing concept and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in surface analysis problem-solving. This methodology has evolved over subsequent workshops and now represents the philosophy used in CasaXPS spectral data processing paradigm.
