Clinical, Neuroimaging, and Genetic Markers in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy-Related Inflammation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Aikaterini Theodorou et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the clinical, neuroimaging, genetic, and cerebrospinal fluid biomarker characteristics of patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation (CAA-ri). The results showed that cognitive decline was the most common clinical feature, while hyperintense T2/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery white matter lesions and lobar cerebral microbleeds were the most prevalent neuroimaging findings. 34% of patients with CAA-ri had the ApoE epsilon 4/epsilon 4 genotype.

Inflammatory Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy: A Broad Clinical Spectrum

Aaron de Souza et al.

Summary: Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a CNS vasculopathy associated with vascular inflammation due to amyloid accumulation. Inflammatory CAA subtypes include CAA-related inflammation (CAAri) with lymphocytic infiltrates and amyloid-beta (A(3)-related angiitis (ABRA) with granulomatous inflammation. The increasing use of antiamyloid immunotherapy in Alzheimer's disease may lead to a rise in the incidence of inflammatory CAA.

A practical approach to the management of cerebral amyloid angiopathy

Mariel G. Kozberg et al.

Summary: Cerebral amyloid angiopathy is a common small vessel disease in the elderly associated with intracerebral hemorrhage and cognitive decline. Awareness of the diagnosis is crucial for treatment decisions, such as lifelong anticoagulation or alternative strategies.

Peak Width of Skeletonized Mean Diffusivity as Neuroimaging Biomarker in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

N. Raposo et al.

Summary: Whole-brain network connectivity is a useful biomarker for cerebral amyloid angiopathy and related cognitive impairment. The peak width of skeletonized mean diffusivity is altered in cerebral amyloid angiopathy and associated with performance in processing speed, suggesting it may be a useful biomarker for cognitive assessment in this population.

Summary: The study found that vessel wall enhancement in patients with cerebral amyloid angiopathy is associated with both acute and future ischemic stroke. Patients with vessel wall enhancement demonstrated significantly shorter stroke-free survival.

Spontaneous ARIA-like Events in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy-Related Inflammation A Multicenter Prospective Longitudinal Cohort Study

Laura Antolini et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the natural history and outcomes after treatment of spontaneous amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA)-like in cerebral amyloid angiopathy-related inflammation (CAA-ri). The results showed that most patients clinically and radiologically recovered within 3 to 12 months after the first-ever presentation of CAA-ri, but 38.3% experienced at least one recurrence within the following 24 months, with a higher likelihood of recurrence if IV high-dose corticosteroid pulse therapy was suddenly stopped.
