Promoting carrier collection by DMF/DMSO binary solvent for efficient kesterite solar cells

Yali Sun et al.

Summary: By engineering a binary solvent of dimethylformamide (DMF)/dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in the precursor solution, efficient Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cells with carrier collection are fabricated. The replacement of DMSO with DMF results in a Cu-poor and rough film surface, leading to enhanced short-wave absorption and improved short-circuit current density. Analysis shows that the increased depletion width, built-in voltage, and reduced conduction band offset improve carrier separation and transport. This work provides insights into the performance improvement and fabrication of high-performance kesterite photovoltaics using binary solvent engineering.
