Optical, mechanical and thermal properties in HfO2-doped TiO2-LaO3/2 glasses fabricated by aerodynamic levitation

Xiangyuan Wang et al.

Summary: TiO2-LaO3/2-HfO2 glasses were fabricated by aerodynamic levitation technique. The addition of HfO2 resulted in decreased glass transition temperature and onset crystallization temperature, as well as increased density and hardness. Raman spectra showed a maximum phonon energy of 720 cm(-1). The glasses had wide transmittance range and high transmittance percentage. Abbe number decreased with the addition of HfO2, while refractive index increased due to the increase in oxygen packing density and decrease in molar volume.

Tm3+/Ho3+ co-doped tellurate glass with high emission cross section for 2μm fiber lasers

Yinghui Shi et al.

Summary: A modified melt quenching technique was used to prepare new Tm3+/Ho3+ co-doped TTL glass with high emission cross section. The glass system exhibits large refractive index, density, and excellent mechanical properties. It shows high thermal stability, low phonon energy, and efficient 2.0μm fluorescence, making it a good candidate for obtaining efficient 2.0μm emission.

Toward low-loss mid-infrared Ga2O3-BaO-GeO2 optical fibers

Theo Guerineau et al.

Summary: The development of efficient and compact photonic systems for mid-infrared integrated optics is facing challenges. Most mid-infrared glass-based devices use fluoride or chalcogenide glasses, but their development is cumbersome due to poor crystallization/hygroscopicity resilience or poor mechanical-thermal properties. The use of heavy-metal oxide optical fiber from the barium-germanium-gallium oxide vitreous system shows promise, but the fabrication of low-loss BGG fibers is still a challenge. This article addresses the factors preventing low-loss BGG fiber fabrication and reports the lowest losses ever measured in a BGG glass fiber.
