Exploring Tai Chi Exercise and Mind-Body Breathing in Patients with COPD in a Randomized Controlled Feasibility Trial

Kristen M. Kraemer et al.

Summary: In this pilot feasibility randomized controlled trial, tai chi showed greater improvements in depressive symptoms, 6-minute walk test distance, social support, and chair stand compared to the MBB intervention. While mindful breathing may not have significant impact, improvements in social support were maintained at the 24-week follow-up. Further research is needed to understand the effects of mindful breathing for COPD and strategies to maintain benefits from tai chi over time.
