Photo-assisted charging of carbon fiber paper-supported CeO2/MnO2 heterojunction and its long-lasting capacitance enhancement in dark

Weiyi Yang et al.

Summary: Developing green and sustainable approaches to enhance electrochemical charge storage efficiencies is emphasized. In this study, a two-step in-situ growth process was used to fabricate a CeO2/MnO2 composite photo-electrode with enhanced photo-assisted charging capability. The formation of a CeO2/MnO2 heterojunction improved the separation efficiency of photo-generated charge carriers. Additionally, the photo-enhanced capacitance of the photo-electrode was retained even in the dark for a prolonged period.

Synergetic effect of adsorption-photocatalysis by GO-CeO2 nanocomposites for photodegradation of doxorubicin

Ali Abbasi et al.

Summary: The photodegradation of DOX can be effectively achieved by the synergy of adsorption and photocatalysis using graphene oxide-cerium oxide (GO-CeO2) nanocomposites. The synthesized GO-CeO2 nanocomposites showed high crystallinity, lower bandgap energy, and narrow particle size distribution. The removal of DOX was influenced by the pH of the solution, with neutral and alkaline conditions supporting the degradation process. The GO-CeO2 nanocomposites exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity due to their lower bandgap energy and interfacial charge transfer. Moreover, the presence of co-existing ions and organic dyes also affected the removal efficiency of DOX.

Fundamentals and applications of photoelectrocatalysis as an efficient process to remove pollutants from water: A review

Paulina Alulema-Pullupaxi et al.

Summary: Water pollution is a growing environmental problem due to population growth, industrialization, and agricultural expansion. Conventional wastewater treatment methods are ineffective in removing organic and toxic pollutants, but electrochemical advanced oxidation processes, particularly photoelectrocatalysis (PEC), offer a promising solution. PEC technology involves applying bias potential to a semiconductor film on a conductive substrate to enhance degradation of pollutants in water.
