Treatment With Small Molecule Inhibitors of Advanced Glycation End-Products Formation and Advanced Glycation End-Products-Mediated Collagen Cross-Linking Promotes Experimental Aortic Aneurysm Progression in Diabetic Mice

Yankui Li et al.

Summary: Diabetes attenuates abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), and this is mainly due to the accumulation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) that reduce extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation. Inhibiting AGE formation or disrupting AGE-ECM cross-linking enhances the development of AAAs in diabetes.

Treatment with the Prolyl Hydroxylase Inhibitor JNJ Promotes Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Progression in Diabetic Mice

Jia Guo et al.

Summary: The dysregulated activity of PHD in diabetic patients may play a role in suppressing the progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). This study found that the use of a PHD inhibitor enhanced AAA progression and restored pathological features in diabetic mice, as well as in human AAA tissue. This finding is important for understanding the development and treatment of complications in diabetes.

Intimal Hyperplasia of Arteriovenous Fistula

Sijia Ma et al.

Summary: Intimal hyperplasia (IH) is a crucial histopathological injury that forms the basis of vascular stenosis and thrombogenesis. It is common in maladies such as stenosis at the anastomosis of arteriovenous fistula and restenosis after angioplasty. Various components, including endothelial dysfunction, multiplication, and movement of vascular smooth muscle cells, play critical parts in the advancement of IH. Vascular smooth muscle cells may offer a premise for clinical treatment, along with the synthesis of extracellular matrix and inflammatory responses.

Heme Oxygenase 1/Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma Pathway Protects Intimal Hyperplasia and Mitigates Arteriovenous Fistula Dysfunction by Regulating Oxidative Stress and Inflammatory Response

Tingfei Xie et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of the HO-1/PPAR-γ pathway in arteriovenous fistula (AVF) development. The study shows that the pathway can suppress intimal hyperplasia, protect the intima of blood vessels, and mitigate AVF dysfunction by regulating MMP9 and ROS.

Summary: Drug-eluting stent technologies have greatly improved the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous coronary interventions. However, in-stent restenosis (ISR) remains a significant public health concern. This paper comprehensively reviews the incidence, mechanisms, and imaging characteristics of ISR, and proposes a contemporary treatment algorithm.

Kunming mouse strain is less susceptible to elastase-induced abdominal aortic aneurysms

Haole Liu et al.

Summary: Using PPE infusion to induce AAA in Kunming mice and C57BL/6J mice, it was found that Kunming mice were less susceptible to AAA formation compared to C57BL/6J mice, which may be associated with their inability to elicit a strong inflammatory response.

Incidence of Neo-Intimal Hyperplasia in Anterior Circulation Aneurysms Following Pipeline Flow Diversion

Jared B. Cooper et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 251 cases of anterior circulation aneurysms treated with Pipeline flow diversion and found a significantly higher incidence of neo-intimal hyperplasia in MCA aneurysms compared to ICA and ACA aneurysms at 6-month follow-up. The presence of neo-intimal hyperplasia did not affect aneurysmal occlusion rates, suggesting that delaying 12-month follow-up angiography in MCA aneurysm patients may be a more appropriate strategy.

Animal models of stroke

Yanyu Li et al.

Summary: Stroke is a devastating disease with high morbidity and mortality, and animal models are indispensable tools for investigating mechanisms and developing therapeutic regimens. It is impossible to mimic all aspects of human stroke in one animal model due to the complexities of the disease. Different stroke models have unique strengths and weaknesses, such as the endovascular filament occlusion model’s easy manipulation and controllable reperfusion, while the thromboembolic model is more convenient for investigating thrombolysis.
