State-of-art advances on removal, degradation and electrochemical monitoring of 4-aminophenol pollutants in real samples: A review

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: p_Aminophenol, also known as 4-aminophenol (4-AP), is a chemical compound with hydroxyl and amino groups on the benzene ring. It is a suitable precursor for synthesizing oxazoles and oxazines. However, the toxicity of aniline and phenol poses a risk to human and environmental health, so it is important to develop reliable techniques for detecting and eliminating trace amounts of amino phenols.

Mechanistic insights into surface catalytic oxidation of fluoroquinolone antibiotics on sediment mackinawite

Xiru Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transformation of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs) in the presence of sediment mackinawite (FeS) under ambient conditions. The role of dissolved oxygen in the enhanced degradation of FQs induced by FeS was also evaluated. The results showed that typical FQs could be efficiently adsorbed and degraded by FeS under neutral pH conditions. Hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical anions were identified as the dominant reactive species responsible for FQs degradation.

Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species and Degradation of Pollutants in the Fe2+/O2/Tripolyphosphate System: Regulated by the Concentration Ratio of Fe2+ and Tripolyphosphate

Chengwu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between the Fe2+/TPP ratio and the degradation mechanism of p-nitrophenol (PNP) in Fe2+/O-2 systems under neutral conditions was investigated. It was found that the Fe2+/TPP ratio regulated the degradation pathways of PNP, with different reactive oxygen species (ROS) involved at different ratios. By controlling the Fe2+/TPP ratio, the oxidation/reduction removal of pollutants can be selectively achieved.

A controllable reduction-oxidation coupling process for chloronitrobenzenes remediation: From lab to field trial

Kai Wei et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a controllable reduction-oxidation coupling (ROC) process using zerovalent iron (ZVI) and H2O2 for the effective removal of chloronitrobenzenes (CNBs) from water and soil. The results show that this process significantly improves the removal rate of CNBs and has promising applications for site remediation.

FeS-mediated mobilization and immobilization of Cr(III) in oxic aquatic systems

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that FeS nanoparticles facilitated rapid Fenton-like reactions during the early stage of FeS oxygenation, leading to the rapid oxidation of Cr(III) to Cr(VI). However, as the reactions progressed, the oxidative potential was counteracted by competitive scavenging and reduction reactions. In equilibrium, all Cr(VI) was reduced back to Cr(III) at an FeS-Cr(III) molar ratio of 10:1, while a small fraction of Cr(VI) remained in solid products at a ratio of 1:1. Acidic conditions favored the generation of Cr(VI) and the equilibrium concentration was higher at pH 5.0 compared to pH 9.0.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of dissolved organic matter on FeS oxidation and how FeS and its oxidation may alter the retention and nature of DOM. The research showed that FeS oxidation preferentially removed high-molecular weight and nitrogen-rich compounds and promoted the formation of aqueous sulfurized organic molecules.

Effect of sulfidation on nitrobenzene removal from groundwater by microscale zero-valent iron: Insights into reactivity, reaction sites and removal pathways

Kai He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the removal of nitrobenzene by sulfidated microscale zero valent iron (mZVI) and reveals that sulfidation enhances the reactivity of mZVI by providing higher iron utilization efficiency and stronger passivation resistance. The optimal conditions for nitrobenzene reduction were found to be with a sulfide to iron molar ratio of 0.1, resulting in complete transformation of nitrobenzene to aniline. The study also demonstrates that sulfidated mZVI can be applied in real field remediation for faster nitrobenzene reduction in groundwater/soil systems.

Ligand-Enhanced Electron Utilization for Trichloroethylene Degradation by •OH during Sediment Oxygenation

Wenjing Xie et al.

Summary: Specific ligands can greatly enhance contaminant degradation during sediment oxygenation by increasing the utilization efficiency of sediment electrons. The electron utilization efficiency for (OH)-O-center dot production increases with higher ligand concentrations, and is mainly enhanced by changes in sediment surface Fe(II) coordination for low adsorption affinity ligands, and by electron transfer from sediment to dissolved Fe(III)-ligand for high adsorption affinity ligands.

Abiotic Transformation of Nitrobenzene by Zero Valent Iron under Aerobic Conditions: Relative Contributions of Reduction and Oxidation in the Presence of Ethylene Diamine Tetraacetic Acid

Chuanyu Qin et al.

Summary: The study found that zero valent iron can degrade nitrobenzene through both reduction and advanced oxidation under oxygen-limited conditions. The contribution of center dot OH to the degradation of nitrobenzene increases with time, with reduction remaining the main pathway of transformation. The balance between ZVI, dissolved oxygen, and iron-complexing ligands is crucial for the optimal removal of organic contaminants.
