Summary: With the rapid progress in AI, machine learning, and deep learning, new techniques and tools for manipulating multimedia have emerged. However, these technologies have not only been used for legitimate purposes but have also been exploited by malicious users for unlawful activities. Deepfakes, high-quality and realistic manipulated videos, have become a major concern as they are used to spread misinformation and propaganda, incite political discord and hate, and even harass and blackmail individuals. In this paper, a systematic literature review is conducted to provide an updated overview of the research works in Deepfake detection. The analysis of 112 relevant articles from 2018 to 2020 reveals that deep learning-based methods outperform other techniques in detecting Deepfakes.
