Autophagy activation, histopathological damage, and altered renal epithelial sodium channel and Na plus ,K plus -ATPase gene expression in offspring kidney after in utero exposure to allethrin

Wadha Alqahtani et al.

Summary: The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of the pyrethroid-based insecticide allethrin on kidney function in rat offspring. The results showed that high dose of allethrin reduced the number of glomeruli, while low dose significantly decreased glomerular diameter and caused histopathological alterations and induction of autophagic-related markers. Furthermore, allethrin administration dose-dependently downregulated the expression of ENaC and Na+/K+-ATPase genes.

Biological Embedding of Early-Life Adversity and a Scoping Review of the Evidence for Intergenerational Epigenetic Transmission of Stress and Trauma in Humans

Aoshuang Zhou et al.

Summary: Severe or chronic stress and trauma can have long-lasting effects on health, possibly even persisting across generations. Epigenetics is a mechanism that has been implicated in these effects. This article provides an overview of studies demonstrating the role of DNA methylation, a widely studied epigenetic mechanism, in the effects of early-life stress, as well as the transmission of stress across generations.

Allethrin Promotes Apoptosis and Autophagy Associated with the Oxidative Stress-Related PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Pathway in Developing Rat Ovaries

Maroua Jalouli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the developmental effects of the pyrethroid-based insecticide allethrin on ovarian function in rat offspring. The results showed that allethrin-induced ovarian damage was associated with increased oxidative stress and apoptosis. Furthermore, allethrin promoted autophagy and inhibited the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. These findings suggest that allethrin exposure can negatively affect follicle structure and function, leading to ovarian dysfunction and impaired fertility in female offspring.

Metformin ameliorates polycystic ovary syndrome in a rat model by decreasing excessive autophagy in ovarian cells via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR

Bo Xu et al.

Summary: This study examined the mechanisms of metformin in treating PCOS by treating a rat model. It was found that metformin can decrease autophagy levels in ovarian granulosa cells and reduce oxidative stress, thereby ameliorating PCOS. The study provides evidence for targeted reduction of excessive autophagy in ovarian granulosa cells and improvement of PCOS.

The Influence of Prenatal Fumonisin Exposure on Bone Properties, as well as OPG and RANKL Expression and Immunolocalization, in Newborn Offspring Is Sex and Dose Dependent

Ewa Tomaszewska et al.

Summary: The study revealed that exposure of pregnant dams to fumonisins can lead to negative effects on offspring bone metabolism and properties, with impacts depending on dose and sex. Effects were observed in body weight, bone length, and bone mechanical resistance, all linked to alterations in bone metabolism proteins.

Research Progress on Fumonisin B1 Contamination and Toxicity: A Review

Jia Chen et al.

Summary: Fumonisin B1 (FB1) is a highly toxic mycotoxin produced mainly by Fusarium proliferatum and Fusarium verticillioide, causing extensive contamination worldwide in corn, rice, wheat, and their products. It poses health risks and toxicity to animals and humans, inducing oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, cellular autophagy, and apoptosis. The review focuses on FB1 contamination, its toxic effects, and potential mechanisms, aiming to provide a reliable reference for understanding FB1 occurrence and toxicity.
