Soil chronosequence derived from landslides on the upper reach of Minjiang River, western China

Jun-bo He et al.

Summary: Soil chronosequences derived from historical landslides provide important insights into pedogenesis, nutrient dynamics, and ecosystem evolution. A 22,000-year soil chronosequence from multiple landslides on the upper reach of Minjiang River in China was presented, validating the reliability of the chronosequence through various pedogenesis indices and soil nutrient variations. The results showed changes in soil composition, weathering indices, and nutrient concentrations, indicating a long-term soil development process and providing a platform for improving biogeochemical theories and understanding sustainable vegetation restoration.

HIRM variation in the Ganzi loess of the eastern Tibetan Plateau since the last interglacial period and its paleotemperature implications for the source region

Zixuan Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the variation and contributions of hematites of various origins to HIRM in the eastern Tibetan Plateau loess, finding that depositional hematite is the main contributor to HIRM. HIRM can be used as an indicator of temperature variation on the Tibetan Plateau, which has responded to orbital-scale glacial-interglacial changes primarily influenced by Northern Hemisphere summer insolation. The study provides further understanding of environmental changes in the Tibetan Plateau.

Metamorphic fluxes of water and carbon in rivers of the eastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau

Jun Zhong et al.

Summary: Geothermal activities in the eastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau were analyzed to understand their role in surface-earth geochemical processes. The study found that hot springs' water chemistry is influenced by the mixing of metamorphic fluids and surface waters. The contribution of metamorphic water fluxes to the large rivers in the region was relatively low, suggesting that previous estimations of metamorphic carbon fluxes might have been over-estimated.

Ecoenzymatic stoichiometry reveals widespread soil phosphorus limitation to microbial metabolism across Chinese forests

Yongxing Cui et al.

Summary: This study used ecoenzymatic stoichiometry methods to investigate microbial nutrient limitations in forest soils across 181 sites in China. The results showed that phosphorus limitation was widespread in 80% of the forests, and it increased with soil depth and from boreal to tropical forests. This limitation was influenced by climate factors such as wetter and warmer conditions, as well as anthropogenic nitrogen deposition.

Variations in vegetation CUE with climate change and human activity during growing seasons in the Western Sichuan Plateau, China

Hanhao Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that the temporal-spatial variations of vegetation carbon use efficiency (CUE) in the Western Sichuan Plateau are mainly influenced by sunshine duration, followed by precipitation and air temperature, with no significant lagged response to precipitation.
