Kinematic Lie Algebras from Twistor Spaces

Leron Borsten et al.

Summary: We analyze theories with color-kinematics duality from an algebraic perspective and find that any such theory has an underlying BV-algebra. Conversely, we show that any theory with a BV-algebra features a kinematic Lie algebra that controls interaction vertices. We provide examples of theories with BV algebras such as Chern-Simons theory and demonstrate the implications of these BV algebras on the color-kinematics duality.

Homotopy Transfer and Effective Field Theory II: Strings and Double Field Theory

Alex S. Arvanitakis et al.

Summary: This article continues the study of effective field theory through homotopy transfer of L∞-algebras, focusing on tree-level non-Wilsonian effective actions. The construction of effective actions for string states at fixed levels and weakly constrained double field theory are discussed in detail. The resolution of issues in closed string theory on toroidal backgrounds, including vertex operators and reflector states, is also covered. The weakly constrained double field theory is obtained from closed string field theory on a toroidal background, with a prescription for determining the theory's vertices and symmetries provided through homotopy transfer. Consistent truncation in the context of homotopy transfer is also discussed.

Homotopy Transfer and Effective Field Theory I: Tree-level

Alex S. Arvanitakis et al.

Summary: By using the dictionary between general field theories and strongly homotopy algebras, an algebraic formulation for integrating out degrees of freedom is provided. The explicit formulas and governing principles for homotopy transfer are shown to control the integration of degrees of freedom at tree level. The generalization to loop level will be explored in a sequel to this paper.

The gauge structure of double field theory follows from Yang-Mills theory

Roberto Bonezzi et al.

Summary: In this paper, we demonstrate that up to third order, double field theory can be encoded in Yang-Mills theory. By utilizing algebraic structures from string field theory, we construct an L-infinity algebra which undergoes cubic truncation on the tensor product of two kinematic algebras with level-matched states. This construction relies on a specific form of the Yang-Mills L-infinity algebra obtained from string field theory or the quantization of a suitable worldline theory.

Double field theory as the double copy of Yang-Mills theory

Felipe Diaz-Jaramillo et al.

Summary: The paper demonstrates that double field theory is derived from the color-kinematic double copy of Yang-Mills theory. A precise double copy prescription is provided for solving the quadratic and cubic order Yang-Mills action, resulting in the double field theory action with the integrated duality invariant dilaton. Specifically, the quadratic order yields the gauge-invariant double field theory, while the cubic order yields the cubic double field theory action subject to a gauge condition originating from Siegel gauge in string field theory.

Double Copy from Homotopy Algebras

Leron Borsten et al.

Summary: The article demonstrates the natural interpretation of N=0 supergravity as the 'square' of Yang-Mills theory using the BRST Lagrangian double copy construction in terms of homotopy algebras. It expands significantly on the validity of the double copy at the loop level and provides a detailed derivation of the double-copied Lagrangian and BRST operator. The constructions presented are very general and applicable to a wide range of examples.
