Lead contamination alters enzyme activities and microbial composition in the rhizosphere soil of the hyperaccumulator Pogonatherum crinitum

Xiao-long Hou et al.

Summary: Pb contamination had significant effects on enzymatic activities and microbial composition in the rhizosphere soil of Pogonatherum crinitum, particularly increasing acid phosphatase and urease activities and altering the dominance of soil bacteria; There were strong positive correlations between dominant bacterial phyla and enzymatic activities, suggesting synergistic effects on the growth of P. crinitum during Pb contamination.

Rhizosphere effect on Pb solubility and phytoavailability in Pb-Contaminated soils

Xinxin Li et al.

Summary: The study shows that plant roots play a significant role in modifying the solubility of lead in historically contaminated orchard and lead phosphate-spiked soils. The rhizosphere effect was observed not only for lead, but also for other trace metals such as aluminum, iron, copper, and nickel.
