Production of wood-based panel from recycled wood resource: a literature review

Duy Linh Nguyen et al.

Summary: This article presents and discusses the available studies on utilization of waste wood (WW) resource for wood-based panel production. The majority of WW research was from Europe and focused on recycled material from particleboard. Particleboard was identified as the primary option for wood-based panel production using waste wood. There was a lack of research on recycling plywood. Physical and chemical contaminants varied depending on the origin of the recycled wood, and the properties of wood-based panels decreased with higher proportions of waste wood content.

Effects of Pretreatments on the Chemical Composition and Thermal Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch

Citasari Hendrasetiafitri et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of different solution pretreatments on the chemical composition and thermal degradation of oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB). It was found that acid soaking pretreatments reduce alkaline ash materials, while alkali or water soaking pretreatment effectively reduce silicon and chlorine content. The pretreated OPEFB exhibits increased thermal degradation temperatures, indicating improved thermal stability. Overall, water soaking pretreatment shows promise in enhancing the applicability of OPEFB as a bio-fuel for combustion.

Flexural vibration properties of particle board using acrylic emulsion adhesives with differential glass transition temperature

Kaoru Fujishiro et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of physical properties of water-based adhesives on the vibration characteristics of wood-based materials, indicating that acrylic emulsion adhesives exhibit different tan delta (D) and tan delta (F) values depending on their glass transition temperature (T-g). The dynamic Young's modulus (E-F) of acrylic emulsion adhesives is higher than that of urea-formaldehyde adhesive (UF) at specific T-g values.

Evaluation of thermal properties and acetaldehyde adsorption performance of sustainable composites using waste wood and biochar

Jisoo Jeon et al.

Summary: The study aimed to utilize wood waste through biochar production to create a biocomposite material for improving indoor air quality while satisfying building material performance. By increasing the content of biochar in the biocomposite, thermal conductivity decreased while specific heat remained unaffected. The biocomposite also showed improved acetaldehyde adsorption with increased biochar content, indicating its potential for environmental sustainability.

Release behavior of arsenic, chromium, and copper during heat treatments of CCA-treated wood

Takahiro Kato et al.

Summary: Biomass has gained attention as an environmentally friendly energy resource, with concerns about global environmental problems. CCA-treated wood, a type of construction waste, releases high-volatile arsenic during pyrolysis and gasification, but the release can be suppressed by mixing organic sludge rich in iron and calcium.

FTIR spectral band shifts explained by OM-cation interactions

Ruth H. Ellerbrock et al.

Summary: This study investigated the interactions between OM in soils and polyvalent cations such as Ca2+, and their effects on FTIR spectra. The results showed that band shifts were influenced by cation concentrations, limiting automated interpretations of FTIR spectra without prior spectral corrections specific to soils.

Cascading Recycling of Wood Waste: A Review

Arnaud Besserer et al.

Summary: Wood is a sought-after renewable resource, with waste wood being used for new material production. However, improvements in legislation and recycling processes are necessary to maximize reuse and enhance recycled wood properties. Innovations in sorting techniques, cleaning processes, and bioremediation are being developed in Europe to address these challenges.
