An Efficient Numerical Method for Time Domain Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Co-axial Cables

Akram Beni Hamad et al.

Summary: In this work, an efficient numerical method for solving 3D Maxwell's equations in coaxial cables is proposed. The method combines hybrid explicit-implicit time discretization, edge elements on prisms, and numerical quadrature. The numerical validation of generalized telegrapher's models, which simplify the 3D Maxwell equations into a 1D problem, is also investigated.

STABILIZED LEAPFROG BASED LOCAL TIME-STEPPING METHOD FOR THE WAVE EQUATION

Marcus J. Grote et al.

Summary: Local time-stepping methods provide a solution to the stability constraint of explicit methods caused by local mesh refinement. By adjusting the LF-LTS method, it is possible to remove the instability at certain discrete values of Δt. The modified stabilized LF-LTS method preserves the desirable properties of being fully explicit, second-order accurate, and energy conserving.
