Development of Immobilized Carreira (Phosphoramidite, Olefin) Ligands and Application in Iridium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Allylic Amination

Leijie Zhou et al.

Summary: A family of polystyrene-supported ligands based on the design of Defieber and Carreira were developed and successfully applied in the iridium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic amination of unmasked allylic alcohols, resulting in 27 examples with up to 99% enantiomeric excess. Two functional resins, L1 and L4, demonstrated significant advantages including easy preparation, ligand recyclability, and convenient handling for sequential use. Notably, the catalytic use of iridium complexes of L1 and L4 allowed for the efficient reuse of expensive iridium metal, which is not achievable under homogeneous conditions with monomeric complexes.

Rh(I)-Catalyzed Enantioselective Arylation of Cyclic N-Sulfonyl Diketimines Using Planar-Chiral Phosphine-Olefin Ligands Based on a (Cyclopentadienyl)manganese(I) Scaffold with a Highly Fluorinated Aryl Phosphino Group

Ryosuke Shimamoto et al.

Summary: Catalytic enantioselective 1,2-addition reactions of arylboronic acids with 1,2,5-thiadiazoline 1,1-dioxide derivatives were achieved using a planar-chiral phosphine-olefin ligand L5 with a bis[(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoro)phenyl]phosphino group, resulting in <=98% ee. The addition product enantioselectivities were enhanced by introducing more fluoro substituents on the aromatic ring of the ligand. X-ray crystallographic studies of 3aa and [RhCl/L5]2 determined the absolute configuration of the enantioenriched addition product 3 and the bidentate coordination mode of L5 to a rhodium(I) cation.

Time-Resolved Formation and Operation Maps of Pd Catalysts Suggest a Key Role of Single Atom Centers in Cross-Coupling

Alexey S. Galushko et al.

Summary: A method for characterizing supported catalysts in a spatially localized manner has been proposed. This approach utilizes various microscopes to track the evolution of metal particles, including individual atoms, in catalytic reactions. By studying the behavior of palladium atoms and nanoparticles, it was discovered that single atoms leach out into solution and exhibit higher catalytic activity compared to surface nanoparticles. These findings challenge the assumption that the superior catalytic activity comes from the operation of single atomic catalytic centers on the surface of the support.

Stereochemical Stability of Planar-Chiral Benzazepine Tricyclics: Inversion Energies of P- and S-Alkene Ligands

Jacqueline C. Calderon et al.

Summary: The inversion barriers Delta G double dagger for planar chiral phosphine-alkene and sulfonamide-alkene hybrid ligands based on phenyl-dibenz-[b,f]-azepine have been determined by density-functional theory calculations. Analysis of the structural and electronic characteristics of the minima and transition states explains the magnitudes of Delta G double dagger and the geometrical changes during the inversion process. The steric repulsion caused by bulky substituents attached to the azepine nitrogen atom has a pronounced effect on the Delta G double dagger value, explaining the stereochemical stability of the ligands.
